Minnetonka Schools Hosts 12th Annual Celebration of Service

Minnetonka Schools celebrated its 12th annual Celebration of Service event on November 9. The Celebration of Service recognizes students, families and community members who have served the greater good in significant ways in the past year.

The Celebration of Service showcases the many ways these individuals have made a positive impact in their community. More than 250 students, families and adults who earned either the President's Volunteer Service Award or a Varsity Letter in Community Service were recognized.

Minnetonka Schools has been a certifying agent for the United States President's Volunteer Service Award program—designed to thank Americans who, by demonstrating their commitment, inspire others to serve—since 2007. Each year, hundreds of Minnetonka students and family members apply and receive the President's Volunteer Service Award.

Faith Watz, a junior at Minnetonka High School, is one of the recipients of a Volunteer Service Award this year. She started volunteering at a summer camp three years ago and has earned most of her volunteer hours while working there over the summers since then.

“My volunteer experience has taught me so much about hard work and leadership. I’ve become so motivated and strong in my responsibility,” said Watz. “I’ve also learned so many practical skills I plan to apply to my future career. Besides all that, I’ve had the most enjoyable summers ever by volunteering. Not to mention it feels amazing knowing my hard work is beneficial to my community.”

For Watz, the benefits of volunteering are numerous. “Volunteering is an amazing way to leave a positive impact, while also learning useful life skills, making lots of fun memories and meeting new people!” she said.

Minnetonka Schools would like to thank all of the volunteers earning awards this year for their positive contributions and impact, and congratulate them on their achievements!
